Day 1. Arrive Cairo. Upon arrival at Cairo Airport you will be met & assisted by our representative and transferred to your hotel. The remainder of your day is at leisure.
Day 2. Pyramids, Sphinx & Egyptian Museum. Today visit is a full day of touring to see the Pyramids & Sphinx & the Egyptian Museum including a lunch stop at a local restaurant. The pyramids of Cheops, Chephran and Mycerinus were reckoned by the Greeks to be one of the Seven Wonders of the World. A single pyramid is built of 2,300,000 blocks, each weighing an average of two and one–half tons. In the face of such immensity, one cannot help but feel the wonder and awe that so many writers & artists have sought to convey over the centuries.
The Cheops Pyramid is especially interesting since its interior burial chambers are open for inspection by the public. Not far from the Pyramids is the Great Sphinx of Giza, which dates from the time of Chephren (2620BC). Hewn from natural yellowish limestone & standing 65 feet high & 187 feet long, this unforgettable statue combines the head of a Pharaoh with a lion's body. The Egyptian museum is the most important depository of Egyptian antiquities anywhere in the world. It features artifacts from the Pharaonic and Greco-Roman periods, including the celebrated mummies of ancient Egypt's king and Tut Ankh Amun treasures. Arrive back to your hotel late afternoon. BL
Day 3. Cairo to Alexandria – Exploring Alexandria. Today you will have an early morning start for he Coastal Capital of Egypt, “Alexandria”. Alexandria was founded by Alexander the Great in 332 BC. However, he left before a single stone was laid for the city. It was only until after his death that one of his generals, Ptolemy I Soter, made the city a functioning community. Alexandria's place in world history is undisputable. A port city, its citizens played an instrumental role in the development of mathematics, engineering and medicine. Besides its material and scientific achievements, Alexandria also served as center for Christian thought. Today, it is Egypt's second largest city and, although little of the ancient city remains, Alexandria still offers plenty tourist attractions. Upon arrival in Alexandria late morning, you will start your full day tour to the National Museum, the Catacomb, the Pompey Pillar, the Montazah Gardens & the Library of Alexandria including a lunch stop at the local restaurant.
The Alexandria Library, the international community has taken the first step towards effacing the disaster caused by the fire that burned down the old library, more than 1600 years ago, by supporting the Revival of the Ancient Library of Alexandria Project. The revival of the Ancient Library of Alexandria Project aims at building a universal modern public library to be a center of culture, science and academic research. The library is to provide both the national and international communities of scholars and researchers with unique collections and facilities focusing on Alexandrian, Egyptian, ancient and medieval civilizations as well as on contemporary disciplines. The Library also has valuable collections of science and technology resource materials to help the socio-economic and cultural development studies on Egypt and the region.
El Montazah Gardens, this 115-acre complex is surrounded by great walls from the south, east and west, and with the beach on its north side. This area used to belong to the Mohamed Ali family that ruled Egypt from the mid 19th century until 1952. The construction was started in 1892 by King Abbas II, who built a large palace inside the complex called the Salamlek. In 1932, King Fuad built a larger palace and called it the Haramlik. His son, King Farouk, built a bridge to the sea to act as a waterfront. The rest of the 115 acres is nothing but beautiful gardens. Palm trees and gazelles cover the area. This is a wonderful spot to enjoy the beauty of Alexandria.
The Alexandria National Museum the latest addition of the massive civil and cultural development that has been undergoing for the past 5 years, including the inauguration of Alexandria bibliotheca. The new museum includes 1800 pieces of iniquities covering the deferent historical periods from the Greco-Roman Era, presented using the highest level of technological advancement in the field of antiquities presentation which will make visiting Alexandria National Museum a truly inspiring experience. Pompey's Pillar, a column of red Aswan granite standing some 90 feet high with a circumference of 27 feet, It was erected in honour of the Emperor Diocletian, as a Greek inscription on the West side of the base indicates.
The Catacombs are an extensive, three levels funerary, probably dating from the 2nd century AD. You will arrive back to your hotel early evening. BL
Overnight Alexandria.
Day 4. Alexandria to Cairo. This morning you will drive back to Cairo where upon arrival you will be brought to your hotel to check-in. The remainder of your day is at leisure to explore this interesting city. B
Day 5. Depart Cairo. You will be transferred to Cairo Airport for your onward flight. B
